Community Life Team

Worship
We praise God for His gift of salvation.
Fellowship
We become involved members of God’s family.

The primary function of the Community Life Team is to ensure that the Word of God is offered to the congregation according to the Scriptures and Lutheran Confessions to foster and promote spiritual unity for existing, new and prospective members of the congregation and to care for the flock. The traditional role of the Board of Elders in Lutheran congregations is maintained in this team. The responsibilities of the Community Life Team broadly encompass worship and fellowship.

Team Vision:
Fairlawn Lutheran Church is an involved, caring, and unified family of believers.

Goals:
1. Connect all members to other members through small groups, while maintaining unity in the family. 2. Develop a new member sponsorship program to effectively assimilate new members into the life of the congregation.


Worship Directed Activities:
Support and oversee the congregational groups that are needed for the worship services, such as:
 •  Readers and communion servers
 •  Ushers, acolytes and worship assistants
 •  Altar Guild, Sanctuary Decorating Committee and the audio/video technicians
 •  Music staff

Worship Services:
 •  Assist the pastors in developing and overseeing the church services and administering sacraments.
 •  Oversee all aspects of worship, which include Word and Sacrament, times and orders of services and music.
 •  Ensure that church practices are in accordance with Article Two of the Fairlawn Lutheran Church Constitution.

Community Life Team will oversee the pastoral staff and the music staff.

Fellowship Directed Activities:
Members:
 •  Greet and visit with congregation members to show interest and concern for their life in the body of Christ.
 •  Review any concerns with the team and be a helpful extension of the pastors. Maintain unity. Address and resolve areas of discord.

New Members:
 •  Encourage prospective members to attend and join the congregation.
 •  Receive and welcome all those who meet the membership requirements into the congregation.
 •  Facilitate the introduction and integration of new members. Provide the congregation with a list of new members periodically.

Inactive Members:
 •  Determine why inactive members are not attending church services and congregational activities. Encourage them to become active again.
 •   After all appropriate efforts have been made, add inactive members to the list of inactive members.  •  After all appropriate efforts have been made, remove inactive members from the church roster.
 •  Provide the congregation with a list of actions taken periodically.

Support and oversee the congregational programs and committees that foster personal relationships, such as: Hospital and home visitations Hospitality committee Benevolence programs, Stephen Ministry, pastoral care programs Social small groups, Forever Young, Women’s Guild Welcoming center staff and greeters Welcoming committee Nursery committee Archivist
