Finance Team

The primary function of the Finance Team is to manage all financial matters of the Congregation.

Team Vision:
To encourage a ministry -driven church, where finances are not a constraint, where we partner with other teams and staff to achieve their visions, and where good stewardship guides the use of the congregation’s resources.

Goals:
1. Long range budget planning (3-5 years).
2. Financial education for members (Gift planning/ endowments, personal financial planning).
3. Financial education for ministries (board member partners).

1. The Finance Team responsibilities are:
 • Oversee the financial conditions of the Congregation through study and analysis.
 • Consult with the various Council Teams to assist in controlling their allocated operating expenditures and help in establishing their annual budget requirements.
 • Prepare an annual budget and submit it to the Council and Congregation for approval.
 • Arrange for an external annual audit of the Treasurer's records and controls as well as any other Church related group maintaining cash accounts to ensure consistency with normally accepted accounting practices and comply with the financial provisions included in these By-laws.
 • Ensure that the Treasurer and Financial Secretary are adequately bonded.
 • Review and monitor the spending of congregational funds as outlined in Section Twenty of these By-laws.
2. The Team will consist of six elected members plus the Treasurer.
3. The Finance Team will recommend a team member as a Financial Secretary candidate for confirmation by council.
4. The Financial Secretary responsibilities are:
 • Assume the Finance Team leadership role in the absence of both the Team Chairperson and Treasurer.
 • Count all regular and special contributions as soon as possible after receiving.
 • Enlist the help of at least one Congregational member to assist in counting.
 • Deposit all regular and special contributions as soon as possible after counting.
 • Record all contributions for each contributor.
 • Distribute quarterly and annual statements of contributions to each contributor on record.
 • Record, monitor and report on all regular and special pledging programs.
 • Protect the confidentiality of individual contributions to the degree that is possible and practical.
 • Distribute regular and special contribution envelopes.
