A Michigan native, Pastor Lentner graduated from Concordia Theological Seminary (St. Louis) in 1967. He was ordained and then commissioned as an evangelistic missionary In the Lutheran Church of Korea. He was involved in several capacities there for five years. In 1972, Rev. Lentner returned to the States and earned his Master of Sacred Theology degree (STM). He served Churches in Warren, Ohio, and New Port Richey, Florida before coming to Fairlawn in 1982.
When asked about his many years serving this final congregation he said, "It's always been about the people." He enjoyed working with the wide variety of individuals within the congregation. Pastor Lentner was also gratified to see dreams of some the church be fulfilled through various church expansion and growth activities. He expressed enthusiasm about the staff additions made during his tenure that enhanced pastoral care, music, and youth programs. Beyond the church, Pastor Lentner was active in many community organizations and also served as Circuit Visitor for LCMS churches throughout the area.
He plans an active retirement as well. he and his wife Ellie celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last year. Ellie Is a nurse practitioner affiliated with both the Barberton and Stark County Health Departments. While in Korea, they were blessed with three children: Maria (Johnson), Nathan, and Matthew. One of Pastor Lentner's goals for his retirement is to spend more time with their now grown, married children and sixgrandchildren. While keeping their home in Bath Township, the couple plans to travel. Pastor Lentner also looks forward to working outdoors, doing household repairs, riding his motorcycle, and finally sailing the unused boat that has been in his driveway for a year.
Rev. Lentner considered his past 24 years an adventure and he anticipates the next phase of his life will be an adventure as well.
