Parish Arts
For two decades, the Parish Arts Ministry of Fairlawn Lutheran Church has brought free quality concerts to the Akron area, making it possible for anyone to attend. The free concert series is open to all and features some of the best local musical talent for vocal and instrumental performances. The series has featured choirs from the University of Akron, local high schools, and Baldwin Wallace as well as the Singing Angels, Guild of Organists, and more. These free concerts are made possible by sponsorships and free will offerings.
Adults
Fairlawn Lutheran meets the needs of local seniors through activities designed for those 55+ but open to everyone. From monthly card and game parties and trips and tours, to psalm walks and lunch and learn programs, we offer a variety of faith-based and fellowship opportunities to adults in our community. The program is open to all - you don't need to be a member at Fairlawn Lutheran or even attend our church to attend an event, and many people invite friends and family members of all ages.
Serving at Church
Church members volunteer during services as musicians (choir, worship team, handbells, soloists), communion assistants, ushers, acolytes and altar guild. A variety of service projects and ministries are available that provide prayer shawls, visitation, bag lunches for shelters, and much more!
Serving our Community
Fairlawn Lutheran has a long tradition of service and leads efforts within the church and with local charitable organizations such as Haven of Rest, OPEN M, St. Luke’s, Akron Pregnancy Center, and the American Red Cross. Fairlawn Lutheran also hosts a Braille workers group that produces books of the Bible in Braille for the visually impaired worldwide.
Bible Studies and Small Groups
Sundays September-May, the Christian Education Hour offers learning opportunities at 10:00am between services. A choice of several adult Bible studies are offered, and youth in grades 7-12 are invited to their own Bible Study. Children age 3 through grade 6 may attend Sunday School for Bible stories, music, crafts and fun. During the week, a variety of small group Bible studies are meeting at church or off-site.
New Member Classes
Those interested in membership at Fairlawn Lutheran can attend one of the New Member classes offered several times each year. You'll meet in a small group with one of the Pastors and go through the Lutheran catechism. You'll have the opportunity to ask lots of questions, get to know fellow members, and learn what it means to be a Lutheran Christian. If you decide to become a member after the class, you will be welcomed into the congregation during a future service. If not, you are still welcome to worship at Fairlawn Lutheran and pastors are always available to meet with you and answer questions.
