THERE IS SO MUCH GOOD TO DO AT

FAIRLAWN LUTHERAN!

Volunteer

Why do we volunteer?

Stewardship of your time through volunteering is a response to God’s gracious gift of forgiveness, life and salvation and an important part of being a faithful follower of Christ. It is also an excellent way to develop meaningful Christian relationships.

There are so many ways to get involved at Fairlawn Lutheran, from serving the community to Bible Studies to fellowship events and much more! Below are just some of the opportunities available to all.

Serving at Church

Church members can volunteer during Services as musicians (worship team, handbells, soloists), Communion assistants, Ushers, Acolytes and Altar Guild. A variety of service projects and ministries are available that provide prayer shawls, visitation, bag lunches for shelters, and more.

Serving our Community

Fairlawn Lutheran has a long tradition of service and leads efforts within the church and with local charitable organizations such as Haven of Rest, OPEN M, St. Luke’s and Akron Pregnancy Center. Fairlawn Lutheran also hosts a Braille workers group that produces books of the Bible in Braille for the visually impaired worldwide.

New Member Classes

Those interested in membership at Fairlawn Lutheran can attend one of the New Member classes offered several times each year. You'll meet in a small group with the Pastor and go through the Lutheran Catechism. You'll have the opportunity to ask lots of questions, get to know others, and learn what it means to be a Lutheran Christian. If you decide to become a member after the class, you will be welcomed into the congregation during a future service. If not, you are still welcome to worship at Fairlawn Lutheran and pastors are always available to meet with you and answer questions.

Groups and Ministries

Fairlawn Lutheran has several committees that serve our congregation, our church, and our community. These committees include Outreach Team, Member Care, Elders, Christian Education, School Team, and supporting teams that include Finance, Facilities, Communication and Technology, and Safety. We encourage everyone to prayerfully consider how they can share their talents and time through volunteering.

Family Ministry

The Family Ministry was created to provide learning, fellowship and support opportunities to all families, especially those with children at home. We also provide family- and parent-focused events that support parents as they lead their families in faith. Fairlawn Lutheran offers Bible Studies, fellowship events, service opportunities and support to all families.

Children and Youth Ministry

There are many learning opportunities for children and teens at Fairlawn Lutheran. First Communion happens in elementary school and youth are confirmed in middle school. Family and youth events provide fun and fellowship, and teens have the opportunity to attend youth gatherings and mission trips. Children can serve in local missions, at church through music, as acolytes and at events.

Adult Christian Education

Fairlawn Lutheran has several adult Bible studies that are open to everyone. Some groups are for certain life-stages, others are for men or women, and then we have Christian Education hour that is open to all. Our Bible study groups include Empty Nesters, Faith Builders, Monday Night Women's Bible Study, Tuesday Morning Women's Bible Study, Thursday Ladies Bible Study, Men's Promise Keepers, Preschool Mom's Bible Study, and Christian Education hour (Sept-May). Check back here regularly to see the current Bible studies, or come visit us and find more information in our lobby.

Youth Christian Education

Fairlawn Lutheran offers Youth Christian Education opportunities for 7th-12th grade, and Confirmation class for 8th graders. Our Sunday School classes meet September-May and are for children 3.5 years to 6th grade. Sunday School meets during Christian Education hour before Sunday services. Our Youth Outreach include Mission Trips, Vacation Bible School and the LCMS Youth Gathering. Stop in to learn more, or contact us.

Preschool Mom's Group

Grow your Faith while building community with fellow Preschool Moms.

Preschool Mom's group was launched to be a place for moms to come together and share their stories of motherhood and to share and grow their faith in open discussion and devotion.

Enjoying a cup of coffee while it's still hot? Yes please. We are working together to build a strong community of moms and families, all while enjoying coffee and treats.

We have different offerings under the Preschool Mom's Coffee Hour group that include a Preschool Moms Bible Study and a book club called OverBooked. More information can be found here. Join when you can, you are always welcome. Contact us for more information or to be added to our email list.

A little more about volunteering.

The Staff and Ministry Team Leaders at Fairlawn Lutheran take every step to equip, encourage, recognize and thank volunteers. Volunteering should never be a burden; we are conscious of family and life situations, we provide scope of work and approximate time commitments where possible and ensure rest and renewal from serving.
